Changing the Clocks: Montmorency Tart Cherry Juice May Help

October 23, 2015 | by Cherry Marketing Institute

On November 1, 2015, we will be changing the clock to “fall back.”

While an extra hour of sleep seems appealing, changing the clock can actually disrupt sleep patterns. According to recent studies, Montmorency tart cherry juice may help make the transition a little easier.

Indeed, research has shown that drinking Montmorency tart cherry juice twice a day for two weeks helped increase sleep time by nearly 90 minutes among older adults with insomnia. In another study, Montmorency tart cherry juice helped improve sleep quality and duration: participants had up to 6 percent increase in sleep efficiency, compared to the participants who drank another beverage.

Hear from several bloggers on their experiences taking the Tart Cherry Juice Sleep Challenge, and how this new routine impacted their sleep. To try the challenge, drink an 8 oz. glass of Montmorency tart cherry juice each morning and each night for 14 days.

Jason from Saltmarsh Running

Only a few days after starting the challenge, Jason noticed he was able to fall asleep quicker. Whenever he woke up at night, he was able to fall back to sleep each time. “Tart Montmorency tart cherry juice helped me fall asleep faster and sleep better than I have in a long time.

Anne from Fannetastic Food

While Anne was at first skeptical about the efficacy of Montmorency tart cherry juice on her sleep, she actually realized she was falling asleep noticeably faster a couple days after the challenge started. “I don’t normally take long to fall asleep, but I felt like it was suddenly happening the second I hit my pillow!”

Matt from No Meat Athlete

In his editorial about the Sleep Challenge, Matt provided a great overview of the studies and science behind Montmorency tart cherries, highlighting the importance of both sleep duration and sleep efficiency (the percentage of time in bed that you’re actually sleeping).

Abbey from Along Abbey Road

In desperate search of a sleep aid while breastfeeding, Abbey found in Montmorency tart cherry juice a natural way to feel more restful and improve the quality of her sleep. “I do feel like it was helpful in making me more sleepy in general [without giving me] the same effect as a sleeping pill.”

Zippy from Champagne Living

Before participating in the Sleep Challenge, Zippy had experienced sleep issues for several years and felt like she’d tried it all. Although drinking Montmorency tart cherry juice didn’t solve all of her problems, it helped increased the number of hours of sleep per night.

As a big chocolate fan, she also shared our Cherry Chocolate Drink recipe using concentrate as the perfect bedtime treat.

Shanna from Blissfully Domestic

When reporting on the Challenge, Shanna noticed she was getting better rest. “I have a habit of waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep for hours.  While I was drinking the Montmorency tart cherry juice, those times I did wake up, I still felt drowsy and was able to drift back to sleep.

Stacie from Divine Lifestyle

Stacie has seen great results from drinking Montmorency tart cherry juice twice a day. While she’s used to having issues with insomnia, she started getting uninterrupted sleep every single night. “I have more energy. I am way more productive. Overall, I am just feeling much better.”

Ashley from A Sassy Woman

Although Montmorency tart cherry juice wasn’t Ashley’s favorite before starting the challenge, she eventually enjoyed the sweet-sour taste and noticed strong results in regards to the quality of her sleep. “It helped me sleep through the night longer and I woke up feeling more refreshed than prior to drinking the juice.
